Underground Service Line Coverage

Who pays for the service lines that come into your home if they break or start to leak?

The exterior underground service and utility lines on your property are your responsibility.  This includes the replacement of any lines in case of breakage or leakage.

The utility companies bring their services to your property and then it’s your responsibility as the homeowner to connect to that line.  These lines include but are not limited to:

·       Water and sewer pipes

·         Cable, internet and electric wiring

·         Natural gas pipes

·         Propane pipes.·

How much could this cost?

The price varies from city to city but on average the cost of the repairs are more than $10,000.  In our agency we’ve seen the price range from $7,000 to $25,000.

Does my homeowner’s insurance cover this?

In the past, this type of an event was not covered and wasn’t even offered by most home insurance companies.   The good news is now some companies are offering this coverage as an endorsement to you homeowners’ policy.

How much does this coverage cost?

This coverage varies but on average this endorsement cost about $12 per month.  While this is an increase to your policy, $12 per month is a whole lot easier to handle than $10,000 out of your bank account all at once.

How do I add this to my homeowner’s policy?

Simply contact our office and ask if your homeowner’s policy has the “Underground Service Line Coverage”.  Most of the companies that we work with offer this coverage now.  We will be happy to discuss this important endorsement with you.
